PJ's eye

PJ has been going to see an eye specialist in Portland (Casey Eye Institute, at OHSU) since 2021.  He was diagnosed with pediatric uveitis.  Its been slowly getting better over the years, and we were only taking him up 1/quarter.  We almost decided not to go for the appt this august but Kelly decided that it would be better.  Thanks goodness we took him - they discovered that his retina had detached due to an infection in the eye that may have been there for years (They don't believe this has anything to do with his Uveitis). Good news is that they were able to get him in for surgery to reattach his retina. It is healing nicely and he will be going up to Portland often for check up while it heals. We thank God for brilliant doctors and modern medicine.

DIY flint Knife project

I had picked up these knives for the boys and one for me from one of my favorite small online businesses - Thunder Crow/Creek Stewart.

A little rainy/snowy/cold today so PJ, Noah and I built our knives today. (Hunter will have to do his when he comes home at some point:).

Here is what comes in the kit:

We started by carving and sanding the handle.

We then uses the resin the fix the blade in the notch, did some burning on the handle to decorate, put some oil on the handles and did the final twine wrap to keep the blade in.

PJ bedroom shelves

I have build and put up shelves in each of the kids rooms except PJ and he asked for some this spring.

I got a piece of cut juniper from a guy selling them on the side of the road near Sunriver for $20. I sanded it down, then cut it adding a light pre-stain and then polyurethane to bring out the color of the wood grain.

We used some shelf bars we have had from our  first apartment in Huntington Beach after getting married.

PJ is super excited!

Birthday Boy turns 9!

Preston turned 9 this week. He got to have a pancake breakfast out and a day off of school. It was a fun relaxing day for our favorite guy. He counted down the days until his special day. He said it was the best day EVER! Preston is so easy going and is always happy. We love him so much!  ❤️
