We have not been to Sisters in a while so with a nice spring day in front of us, we headed over there in the morning. I wanted to find this lava tube cave just out of Sisters back in on some fire roads. It turned out to be a little harder than expected to find it. After about 4 missed turns we finally found it. While trying to find it however we drove on some beatiful back country roads. The picture you see above is Hunter Noah and Abbie with Mt Washington in the backdrop.
This cave has some skylights in it a ways back in that give you some interesting light beams. Due to my bad navigation we were a little later getting there than I wanted so there was only a partial beam coming through one of the skylights but the kids still thought it was way cool. Once back on the surface we hunted along the ground until we could find the holes from the top. After the cave we headed back into Sisters, had a picnic lunch there, grabbed a coffee at Sisters Coffee house and headed back home mid afternoon.
The week was screen free week (no electronics or TV). Our kids' school had activities organized during the week culminating with a Friday night hike. See if you can pick out Kelly and kids. They are on the left side of the picture.
This weather has been way unseasonably warm. It hit 66 degrees this afternoon on the car temp reading, which is incredible for March 8. We did a family outing to Fall River today. Drove southwest of Bend to the Fall River Campground. From there we simply hiked upriver along the fisherman's trail along the water returning the same way. Red came along and enjoyed playing in the water, as did the kids.
Today we had another spring skiing day at Bachelor with temps in the 60's and no wind. I convinced the boys that we could do the Summit today. We ended up doing it about 5 times. Boys loved it. It was the first time for both of them to get to the Summit runs.
Well, it may have been called Winterfest but it felt like summerfest today with temps in the high 50's with no snow. A great family day out. The kids loved the dogs and especially the x-games motocross jumping. Noah says he wants to do that. We went to Cascade Lakes brewery for dinner.
Noah was invited to a birthday party at our friends - the Lovejoys. Their sons name is Noah also. They played army games at the party which the boys all loved. They were split on to two teams - Honor and Valor. Noah was on team 'Honor'. There was an obstacle course and they also played capture the flag. Their party favor included the t-shirt they are wearing and wooden machine gun you see them all holding:)
